We're still feeling the aftershocks and there are a lot of panicked people about, but Chengdu itself has seen relatively little serious damage or injury with only a handful of fatalities. The situation is not good further North and news is only slowly dribbling in from the affected areas. Communications remain difficult and as yet we still have not heard from the majority of our local friends and guides. We do know that many buildings were destroyed in Rilong, the climbing base for Siguniangshan. Sadly the father of our local guide lost his life in the quake, although the rest of his family were OK.
All our trips are canceled for the immediate future.
More news about the earthquake and Dragon Expedition's involvement in the rescue efforts tomorrow.
