Lushan is a pleasant old town on the Western edge of the Sichuan Basin to the North of Ya'an. A popular destination in March and April for it's yellow hillsides (covered in oil seed rape), it is also a destination for caving and rafting. Lushan has a reasonable industry in root carvings and stone work.
A description of Lushan appears in this China Internet Information Center travelogue article about Lushan
Transport
From Chengdu the route follows the expressway towards Ya'an then the G318 for around 20km before forking right on a good well paved road for Lushan. Direct busses leave from Chengdu's Shiyang bus station, there are also regular buses from the local bus station in Ya'an.
Food
There are a number of good local Sichuan restaurants in town. Ye'erba (meat or red bean paste filled glutinous rice dumplings) are Matt's recommendation for snack food.
Accomodation
We tend to stay at the Lushan hotel because it's owned by the same company as the Longmendong Showcave and the rafting business. There are other nicer hotels in town though.
Facilities
There are a number of local shops - basic supermarkets, hardware shops and the like.
