I have just got back from a very short but good trip in Chan Ping Valley, Siguniang Shan, Sichuan Province. The clouds were thick on the pass as we climbed up from Chengdu on our drive to Rilong. On crossing the high pass at over 4000 M the clouds cleared and patches of sunlight illuminated the well photographed Siguniang national park with the 4th sister towering over the land.

This short and easy trek takes us along Chan Ping Valley, following at first a wooden walkway along the river. At the end of this we hiked along a well trodden trail in the forrest for the rest of the day. We could see glimpses through the clouds of many mountains all around, draped in snow and many mysteries, as most of the walls are still yet to be climbed. Our horses carried all our things and met us at lunch time.

Our camp site was in a big open grassy space with a small hut where we made dinner, talked and sang songs into the night. On returning to our tents the snow fell and lay thick on the outside. This just served to keep us a bit warmer and stop the flapping in the wind making for a very comfortable nights sleep and a beautiful dorn.

We packed up camp and began our walk back down the valley spending most of our time photographing things as the light was grate. Back in Rilong we had lunch and jumped back in the 4X4 back to Chengdu. We got back at about 9:00 pm and had a late dinner at a local restaurant. Talked about our trip and looked at photos.

Hope it was a nice trip in Chan Ping Valley. Are these mountains so high that the clouds are left under you? It must be an amazing view and a good feeling to be above the clouds.
